Liverpool plan to sign Naby Keita in January?

01 October 2017 - 05:46

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will reportedly make an attempt to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita during the winter transfer window.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Reds have sealed an agreement to sign the Guinea international at the end of the season after the Bundesliga club turned down an offer worth £75m earlier in the summer.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the Merseysiders could push for an early deal with the German club, although they will have to pay more than initially agreed.

Keita has not been in the best of form since agreeing terms with Liverpool, and he was recently sent off for a carbon copy of Sadio Mane's high foot challenge.

Leipzig boss Ralph Hassenhuttl also questioned the enforcer's commitment during a mediocre display in the Champions League defeat to Besiktas and warned that he could be dropped for the future matches.

“Naby was not good today, maybe it would have been better not to have taken him,” he is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"For me, as a coach, it is important to see who I can rely on at such moments, which players stand up and who is ready to fight against what is going on on the field."

It is clear that Keita is already thinking about his move to Merseyside next summer, and a deal in the New Year could be suitable for both clubs.

Liverpool have the opportunity of breaking into the top four this weekend, should they beat Newcastle United at St.James Park on Sunday afternoon.
