Jack Wilshere close to England recall?

England manager Gareth Southgate is seriously thinking over a possible call-up for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere. The 25-year-old has not featured for the Three Lions since the shocking round of 16 exit to Iceland at Euro 2016.

  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • According to The Mail, Southgate had considered recalling Wilshere for the current set of World Cup qualifiers despite having played no part for the Gunners in the Premier League.

The Three Lions saw his side achieve a last-gasp win over Slovenia in their recent qualifier, and he is said to be eyeing additional creativity in the ranks prior to next summer's World Cup in Russia.

England qualified for the World Cup via the 1-0  victory over Slovenia, and the final outing in Lithuania could see multiple changes with Jamie Vardy, Michael Keane and Kieran Trippier in line for starts.

Wilshere currently has less than nine months left on his Arsenal deal, and talks over an extension are likely to be put on hold until he earns a regular run in the top-flight.
