Unsworth satisfied with Everton performance despite Chelsea defeat

David Unsworth praises 'terrific' Everton versus Chelsea

26 October 2017 - 05:50

Everton caretaker David Unsworth was pleased with the reaction from the Toffees against Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Merseyside outfit succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to the Blues in the League Cup fourth-round tie, but Unsworth praised his players for putting in a 'terrific' performance.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The Toffees put in a strong showing at the home of the Premier League champions, but an injury-time goal from Dominic Calvert-Lewin was not sufficient to progress further in the competition.

Antonio Rudiger and Willian found the scoresheet for the hosts, but the Toffees more than held their own during the second half of the encounter.

Speaking after the game, Unsworth told Sky Sports: "Nobody likes losing games, I'm a bad loser but I have to say I'm proud of the performance, they were terrific."

Everton will now shift their focus to the Premier League where they will look to get off the drop zone when they face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes have produced a strong reaction under caretaker Michael Appleton, and Unsworth will hope for the same as the club seek to end their six-match winless streak in all competitions.
