Portsmouth want to keep James

Harry Redknapp has rejected rumours that David James is looking for a move away from Portsmouth. Tottenham are one of the clubs linked with the goalkeeper and are supposedly ready to offer £5 million for the former Liverpool keeper.

  • "I saw something about him going to Spurs in the summer, as he is out of contract," said Redknapp.

"I don't know where that one has come from. He only signed a new contract with us last year and he will be with us for a long time yet."

Redknapp backed James to push for a place in the 2010 World Cup.

"There's no reason why he can't make the World Cup in 2010 because he will play on for a long time yet," added Redknapp.

"He's such a perfectionist and is a great trainer. He is absolutely dedicated and he is in such great condition."
