France head coach Didier Deschamps has challenged Anthony Martial to become an influential player for Les Bleus following his first call-up since October 2016.
The 21-year-old had a dismal display at the European Championships last year, and this hampered his chances of earning a regular call-up with the national team.
However, his form has vastly improved during the current campaign with his showing, especially from the bench for Manchester United, catching the eye of Les Bleus' boss.
Speaking about Martial's selection, Deschamps was pleased with Martial's late impact in games, but he does not want to restrict him to a bench role with France.
"He continues to be effective. He hasn't been in the last five or six squads. Anthony was at the Euro. He had a more difficult time after that, and he's come back well," Deschamps told reporters, as per ESPN.
"I see him playing well, he's effective when he comes off the bench, but I don't want to just reduce him to a substitute role. He's coming back, he might have come back last time."
Martial has largely shared his duties alongside Marcus Rashford on the left-wing, and he continues to be a regular substitute under Mourinho owing to his reduced work rate while defending.
The Frenchman the crucial winner in the 1-0 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and he could have another opportunity to impress on Sunday when Manchester United faceoff against Chelsea.
