Tevez spares Man Utd a point

20 February 2008 - 23:57

Manchester United picked up an important away draw in tonight's Champions League match in Lyon. Man Utd target Karim Benzema had given Lyon the lead, but it took a late leveller from Carlos Tevez to earn United an away goal.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Lyon came closest when Rio Ferdinand sliced a Jeremy Toulalan cross towards his own goal and inches wide of Van der Sar's right hand post.

Benzema fired just over from 18 yards out while Paul Scholes had a shot blocked from close-range at the other end, but it was 0-0 at the break.

Then after the break Manchester United target Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the French champions with a superb individual effort, from there onward United pressed hard for an equaliser.

Sir Alex's introduction of Tevez and Nani made all the difference for United and it was the former who netted the vital away goal with just three minutes to go.

Tevez was helped by a deflection off Lyons striker Fred to gleefully smash home and put his team in pole position in the tie.
