Wenger: 39th game idea dead

22 February 2008 - 23:59

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that he believes that idea of a 39th international game is almost certainly dead. The Gunners boss insisted he was not opposed to the idea.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • "The idea looks to be dead, maybe because the idea came out in a brutal way and maybe the PR was not done," Wenger declared. "I was open-minded but as well I will not cry if it doesn't happen. I just felt there was something to explore there which will now not be done.

"Certainly the Football Association and the Football League will have to be comfortable with whatever move and whatever direction we take.

"If it's deemed not to be worth it we will think again about our global expansion."
