Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will not come in the way of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata, should they push for summer moves away from Old Trafford.

  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • The midfield pair have been used sparingly over the course of the current campaign with Herrera, in particular, finding first-team opportunities hard to come by due to the competition around him.

According to Marca, Mourinho is said to be planning for significant changes at the heart of the midfield, and this could entice the Spanish duo to pursue their careers elsewhere.

Mata has made just 19 starts in the Premier League during the current campaign, but his performances have not been upto scratch in most of those matches.

On the contrary, Herrera has racked just eight league starts in the same period with injuries, form and fitness hampering his chances of a commanding a regular central midfield role.

Herrera has been alleged to be seeking a potential return to Athletic Bilbao at the end of the season whilst Mata is of interest to Serie A rivals AC Milan and Inter.
