French striker Olivier Giroud has shared the reasons behind his move from Arsenal to Chelsea in the January transfer window, revealing that former Arsenal club legends told him that the Blues' style of play would suit his own.

  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Giroud surprised many when he decided to make a move to Stamford Bridge from the Emirates Stadium and has so far yet to impress since moving to West London. That being said, Giroud was a very popular player at Arsenal during his 5 and a half year stint with Arsene Wenger's side.

It appears that Robert Pires, who is a close friend of Giroud, told the forward that Chelsea would be a good move for his career. Pires is coaching at Arsenal on a part-time basis and is popular in the Gunners' dressing room.

“Football legends like Robert Pires, who’s a close friend, Freddie Ljungberg and even some former Chelsea players told me that their game would suit me because they always play with a big striker and cross a lot,” Giroud said.
