Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has played down fears that Joe Gomez could miss an extended period after sustaining an ankle injury on international duty.
The centre-back suffered the damage during England's friendly against the Netherlands last week, and initial reports suggested that he could be sidelined for at least a month.
However, speaking on the club's official website, Klopp has revealed that while the injury is 'serious', he does not expect the youngster to miss more than a couple of games.
He said: "After the initial shock, we got the best news we could get. At the moment, it's serious – and serious enough to rule him out for the next couple of games. But I think we will see Joe back on the pitch this season, it's pretty sure, how it looks at the moment."
Should this be the case, Gomez is likely to miss the Premier League outings against Crystal Palace and Everton alongside the double-legged Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City.
