Chidozie Awaziem wanted by Chelsea

Chelsea's scouts have identified young Nigerian centre back Chidozie Awaziem as a hot prospect for the future and will make a move to sign the player from Porto this summer in a deal worth 10 million euros. Awaziem is currently playing on loan at French Ligue 1 side Nantes and has impressed.

  • Claudio Ranieri, the current Nantes manager, has brought Awaziem through and has been complimentary of Awaziem's abilities since forcing his way into the French club's side having joined on loan from Portuguese giants Porto.

    Porto signed the defender from Nigerian side El-Kanemi Warriors and the 6 foot 3 centre-back has impressed since his progression to the first team. Despite having a season on loan in France, the player is very highly regarded in Portugal.

    Awaziem has three caps for his country and is expected to play an important part of Nigeria's future at international level. He made his first team debut in June 2017 in a victory over Togo and has since played on a regular basis for the Nigerian side.

    Chelsea scouts have been so impressed with the player that they have deployed their top team to watch the defender in action, with a view to making a transfer bid in the upcoming window.
