Arsene Wenger delivers worrying injury update on Koscielny

04 May 2018 - 06:32

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that Laurent Koscielny could miss the upcoming World Cup with France after suffering an Achilles injury against Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • The France international suffered the problem unchallenged early in the game and he was thereafter in agony before being replaced by Calum Chambers in the 12th minute.

Speaking after the game, Wenger refused to confirm a ruptured Achilles for Koscielny but feared the worst for his compatriot, he said: "It doesn’t look very good. His Achilles is… You can always hope for a miracle in the scan that he will have but the first signs don’t look very good."

Arsenal had to at least find the scoresheet in order to stay alive in the semi-final tie but they unfortunately could not find a way past a resolute Atleti defence.

They eventually bowed of the competition via a 2-1 aggregate defeat with Diego Costa scoring the only goal in the second leg at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
