Arsenal manager Unai Emery has told the club's supporters that he is delighted to have signed Granit Xhaka down to a brand new deal at the Emirates. Despite having struggled since moving to the club; Arsenal have decided to extend the player's contract for the next five years.

  • Xhaka arrived at Arsenal in a £33 million deal and has been the subject of regular abuse from the club's fans, but it is a sentiment not echoed by the club itself, after deciding to offer the midfielder a new contract.

Xhaka is currently on international duty with Switzerland at the World Cup.

“I’m delighted that Granit has extended his contract with us,” Emery told Arsenal’s website.

“He’s an important member of the squad and is still young so will be able to develop even more.

“I hope he has a successful World Cup with Switzerland and comes back fit and ready for the new season.”

Xhaka arrived two seasons ago from German side Borussia Monchengladbach.
