Spurs stick with their asking price for Alderweireld

Tottenham refuse to lower asking price for Manchester United target

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly refused to lower their £75m asking price for Toby Alderweireld, who has been identified as a key target for Manchester United.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The Belgium international has been regularly linked with United since the start of the transfer window but so far, they have made little progress in negotiating a deal.

According to The Mirror, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has stood firm with the price tag of Alderweireld and has indicated United that they must trigger their £75m valuation for his services.

Alderweireld presently has a year left on his remaining deal with Spurs but the north London club have the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months.

Nevertheless, the Belgian's extension clause is said to involve a release clause of around £25m and Spurs risk the option of losing him for a knockdown price next summer.

Aside from Alderweireld, United have been linked with moves for Marquinhos and Leonardo Bonucci as they seek to recruit a new centre-back before the transfer deadline.
