Manchester United legend Gary Neville has said that having Marouane Fellaini and Nemanja Matic in midfield is the best thing for United as they provide protection for the defence.
He has highlighted the fact that the pair are more effective than the combination of Ander Herrera and Fred in midfield.
Matic and Fellaini played together in midfield in United's last game against Burnley in the Premier League, visibly providing a strong midfield display for Jose Mourinho's team.
Speaking to the Premier League, Neville said: "They’ve tried [Ander] Herrera and Fred. But I think with these two there’s real solidity now. When you see Pogba in the box looking to score, Matic and Fellaini are providing protection."
It remains to be seen if Mourinho will continuously stick with Fellaini and Matic after signing Fred for £47m in the just concluded summer transfer window.
But with the Portuguese's job reportedly under threat, he is likely to go for a starting eleven that will get the result for him, rather than selecting a team based on transfer.
