Liverpool legend-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher has defender his recent comments made about Marcus Rashford and believes the Englishman should still leave Manchester United if he wants to establish himself in the centre-forward role.
Carragher had recently questioned the amount of gametime received by Rashford at Old Trafford and this witnessed Jose Mourinho bring up the stats in a recent press conference where he highlighted that the 20-year-old has played more than 100 games under his tutelage.
Despite this, Carragher insists he has no reason to twist his recent statement and feels Rashford should seek a new challenge away from Old Trafford, if he wants to avoid becoming the next Danny Welbeck.
"I agree with Jose Mourinho in terms of his appearance stats. They are very good," he told Sky Sports News. "What I don't like is that Jose or other people felt I was just throwing away a lazy comment."
"I like Danny Welbeck as a player, and I hope this doesn't come across disrespectfully - Marcus Rashford does not want to become the next Danny Welbeck."
Rashford has barely featured in the centre-forward position for United since last season barring when Romelu Lukaku has been injured or needed a rest during a congested schedule.
His gametime on the flanks have also been reduced with the recent signing of Alexis Sanchez and his route to the starting lineup is now largely dependent on how Jesse Lingard performs through the campaign.
