Chelsea midfielder suffers fresh injury setback

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is expected to miss the midweek League Cup tie against Liverpool after sustaining a fresh injury over the past week.

The England international made the squad during the Europa League opener against PAOK Salonika last weekend but he could not make an appearance on the field.

Thereafter, he missed the league meeting at West Ham United with a complaint which required him to have an injection and according to The Telegraph, he is now expected to be excluded from the Blues squad for the Cup tie at Anfield.

Loftus-Cheek has failed to make a start for the Blues since returning from the World Cup with England and in this period, one of Ross Barkley or Mateo Kovacic have got the nod to partner N'Golo Kante and Jorginho in the centre of the park.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have remained unbeaten across all competitions since the campaign began but one of them is certain to lose the streak on Wednesday whereby a victory is expected for one side.
