Manchester United have reportedly lodged a bid worth £40m to secure the signature of Faouzi Ghoulam from Napoli at the turn of the year.
The 27-year-old has been with the Naples outfit since the summer of 2013 and during this period, he has made over 150 appearances across all competitions.
According to Radio Kiss Kiss Naples, United have made an offer of £40m for the left-sided defender with a view to securing a deal at the beginning of the next transfer window.
However, it is added that the Serie A side are likely to resist the bid from the Mancunian giants, given the importance of Ghoulam to the club's proceedings this term.
Manchester United have utilised the services of Luke Shaw and Ashley Young at left-back this campaign but the long-term futures of both defenders remain in doubt with their contracts expiring in nine months' time.
Aside from Ghoulam, United are said to be keen on triggering the £70m release clause in the contract of Atletico's Lucas Hernandez, though they could face competition from the likes of Real Madrid.
