Real Madrid have reportedly joined La Liga rivals Barcelona in pursuit of Chelsea defender David Luiz. According to reports in Spain, as cited on Calciomercato, Real Madrid are also interested in signing the Brazilian, who has impressed under Maurizio Sarri this season.

  • Luiz has been linked with Barcelona in recent weeks, with the La Liga giants needing to strengthen at the back in January. The Brazilian’s form has alerted the Nou Camp outfit, but Chelsea will be reluctant to lose the player in the new year.

Luiz has been rejuvenated under Sarri this season after spending most of the last campaign on the sidelines under Antonio Conte. He has formed a solid partnership alongside Antonio Rudiger, with the Blues looking nervous at the back when either of the two are not included in the starting line-up.

Sarri himself is keen to put his own stamp on the defensive and the Blues may need to sign a replacement before they would consider selling Luiz.
