Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen could make a surprise return to the Premier League this winter with both Southampton and Watford interested in his signature.
The Belgian is currently in his fifth season with the Catalan giants but he has managed just 44 appearances amid the competition and injuries experienced.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Vermaelen could head through the Blaugrana exit door this winter with his existing deal expiring at the end of the season.
It is added that both Southampton and Watford are keen on signing the former Arsenal skipper, who is said to fancy a return to the English top-flight.
Vermaelen, who is expected to recover from a hamstring problem this month, is currently the fourth-choice centre-back at the Camp Nou behind Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet.
The Spanish champions have yet to express an interest in extending his contract and they could potentially pursue a replacement before sanctioning his mid-season departure.
