John Terry slams Kepa Arrizabalaga after League Cup incident

Chelsea legend John Terry was left far from impressed with Kepa Arrizabalaga after he refused to be substituted during the League Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • The Spain international has been struggling with cramps during the closing stages of added extra-time and that encouraged Maurizio Sarri to bring on Willy Caballero to replace him between the sticks.

However, to the manager's astonishment, the goalkeeper refused to be substituted despite the board going up from the fourth referee and he played on until the shoot-out defeat to the Citizens.

Speaking after the game, Terry was surprised by the attitude of Kepa at Wembley and said that the keeper should have respected the manager and come off the playing field.

“Once your number goes up you have to come off and show a bit of respect,” said the former Blues skipper, speaking on Sky Sports. “Deal with that after. That’s the last thing the players want."

Following the game, Sarri appeared to dismiss any concerns with Kepa by stating that it was a pure misunderstanding between the pair but the club may take action against the shot-stopper in the forthcoming days.
