Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has signed a new contract with the Foxes until 2020. The defender, who helped lift the Premier League title for his club, played in his 700th game against Burnley last weekend. Morgan has agreed to stay on for another season under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

  • Morgan opted to extend his contract for another season despite the interest of several top Premier League teams. It is understood that there had also been some interest from abroad, with Spanish duo Las Palmas and Valladolid having contacted the defender's agent this season.

However, Morgan has decided he will stay put for the time being and is happy to do so.

“It means a lot to me,” Morgan said in a statement. “We’ve been through so many ups and downs together as a football club, and I’ve been right at the heart of it from the very beginning.

“So to extend my time here means very much to me and I’m very happy. I can see a very, very bright future for Leicester City."
