Frank Lampard is on the cusp of agreeing a three year deal that will make him the new Chelsea manager and replace outgoing Maurizio Sarri for next season. The Chelsea club legend, who will arrive at Stamford Bridge from Championship side Derby County, will be unveiled this week by the club's board having been locked in talks for over three weeks.

  • Lampard was excused from Derby County's first day of pre-season training to discuss personal terms with the Blues and an agreement has been reached overnight between club and manager. Lampard helped Derby County to the Championship play-off final but was unable to secure promotion, despite having a successful season at the Rams.

It is understood that Jody Morris - Lampard's assistant at Derby County - will also move to the Blues, alongside first-team coach Chris Jones.

A transfer to Stamford Bridge marks an emotional return for Lampard, who is the club's all-time topscorer and is hugely popular with the club's fans and board of directors, as well as club owner Roman Abramovich.
