Alberto Moreno swaps Liverpool for Villarreal

Spanish international defender Alberto Moreno has made a transfer back to his home country with a deal being completed to join Villarreal. The Yellow Submarines have agreed a three year contract with the left-back, who will arrive for pre-season training with his teammates next week.

  • Despite winning the Champions League with Liverpool, Moreno had decided that he would not stay put at Anfield and has left the Reds on a free transfer.

    The player, who has four caps for Spain, had been in talks with Real Betis and Valladolid but has opted to make a move to Villarreal.

    The Spanish club also have other former Premier League player Santi Cazorla amongst their ranks and are hoping to challenge for a Champions League qualification spot next season.

    27 year old Alberto Moreno played over 90 games for Liverpool from 2014 until 2019.
