Chelsea could reportedly swoop for the services for Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell in January, provided they are able to overcome their transfer ban in January.
Blues boss Frank Lampard currently has Marcos Alonso and Emerson in the squad to occupy the left side of the defence and the latter seems the preferred choice for the league duties.
According to The Sun, Lampard has plans to strengthen the defence and he could get the opportunity to do so in the New Year, should the club win their appeal over the embargo at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The same publication claims that the Europa League holders may lodge a £70m bid for the services of Chilwell with Lampard keen on bolster the options on the left side of the backline.
Alonso was an unused substitute during the Blues' disappointing 4-0 defeat to Manchester United in the season opener and there are reports suggesting that he is considering his future with the club.
