Lovren set for Liverpool stay

Liverpool make final transfer decision on Dejan Lovren

29 August 2019 - 13:01

Liverpool have reportedly rebuffed the loan approach from AS Roma for Dejan Lovren and they are prepared to keep hold of the centre-back until January at the least.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Croatia international is presently the fourth-choice central defender in the Reds ranks with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez ahead of him in the pecking order.

As a result, there have been suggestions that he could pursue a fresh challenge before the European transfer window closes but that no longer appears the case.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Merseyside outfit have rejected a second loan offer from the Giallorossi and they hold no interest in parting ways with the 2018 World Cup finalist.

Owing to this, the Giallorossi seem to have switched the stance towards signing Chris Smalling on a season-long loan from Manchester United and the deal is expected to be completed in the next few hours.

Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League table with the only 100 percent record this term. They are scheduled to face Burnley on the road this weekend.
