Shaw, Martial out of Eagles clash

Manchester United confirm double injury concern for Southampton clash

30 August 2019 - 15:34

Manchester United have confirmed that both Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw won't be available for the forthcoming Premier League outing at Southampton.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Shaw and Martial picked up hamstring and thigh injuries respectively during the shock 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend and they could be sidelined for a considerable period of time.

According to the club's official website, the duo are unlikely to feature against the Saints on the road and they have joined Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the list of injury casualties.

United are currently short in the centre-forward department with Martial and Marcus Rashford being the only senior options available following the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

Rashford will certainly be leading the line with the setback for Martial and young graduate Mason Greenwood could be handed with a surprise start on the south Coast tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Ashley Young is likely to be handed with his maiden start of the new season after taking the field for nearly an hour against the Eagles after the injury to first-choice left-back Shaw.
