Arsenal confirm injury setback for Alexandre Lacazette

Lacazette out until October with an ankle concern

Arsenal confirm injury setback for Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal have confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette needs an additional rest from first-team action in order to completely recover from the ankle problem sustained in pre-season.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The France international has been playing with the minor injury over the past few weeks and the club have now decided to keep him out of action until October to regain his fitness.

"We have advised that Alex will need to rest and strengthen his ankle to regain full fitness. Alex has been playing through this injury for several weeks. He is likely to be back in action in October," a statement on the club's website read.

In the absence of Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to lead the line and that could offer an opportunity to either Reiss Nelson or Mesut Ozil to slot into the left side of the attack.

Arsenal have made a decent start to the season with seven points accumulated from the opening four games and that sees them just outside of the top-four positions on goal difference.

Aubameyang and Lacazette have been the prime scorers after contributing five of the six league goals this term and Nicolas Pepe surely needs to contribute to the scoresheet with the setback for the latter.
