Manchester United boss confirms midfielder absence for Newcastle United clash

05 October 2019 - 20:10

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pogba is unlikely to make the matchday squad for Sunday's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

  • Chelsea urged to sign Man City star on free transfer
  • Chelsea squad want Xabi Alonso as manager

  • The France international recently returned from an ankle problem to feature against Rochdale and Arsenal but it appears that he has suffered a minor recurrence of the injury while playing against the latter.

Speaking in a press conference, Solskjaer said that Pogba is unlikely to make the squad for the Tyneside trip and he may only return for the Liverpool clash after the international break.

"Paul? Probably not. There's the international break to come and that might be the time to give them 10-14 days extra to get them ready for the Liverpool game," he told MUTV.

In the absence of Pogba, one of Nemanja Matic or Fred should accompany Scott McTominay in the centre of the park. Matic may have the advantage over Fred, who has yet to start a Premier League game this season.

United go into Sunday's clash against the Magpies with no wins from the past 10 away matches across all competitions. They are presently 11th in the standings with nine points on the board.
