AC Milan to return with fresh move for Liverpool star?

31 October 2019 - 20:19

AC Milan are reportedly planning to retain their interest in signing defender Dejan Lovren when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Serie A giants were heavily linked with the Croatia last summer but the Reds eventually decided against sanctioning his sale before the European transfer deadline.

Since then, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have been the preferred pairing at the heart of the defence under Jurgen Klopp but Lovren did start the previous league game with the latter sustaining a fresh knee injury.

According to Tuttosport, Mattia Caldara's injury concerns could force the Rossoneri into the transfer market in January and Lovren remains among the prime targets on their radar.

Lovren is likely to earn an extended run of games with Matip sidelined until mid-December and he could thereafter find himself in a similar position to the start of the campaign.

Aside from Lovren, Klopp has the services of Joe Gomez to feature in the central defensive role but so far, the Englishman appears as the back-up option behind Van Dijk and Lovren.
