Jose Mourinho ends Bruno Fernandes to Spurs speculation

03 December 2019 - 19:30

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions that he could make an attempt to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon when the transfer window reopens.

  • Borussia Dortmund chief updates on Jadon Sancho link with Chelsea
  • Manchester United keeping tabs on Barcelona midfielder ahead of possible move

  • The Portugal international was one of the prime targets for Jose Mourinho's former club Manchester United last summer but they decided against making a move after learning of the £64m price tag.

Similarly, Spurs failed to find the breakthrough for the playmaker before the deadline but the Portuguese has been frequently linked with them over the past few months.

Speaking on Sport TV, Mourinho said that Spurs are not financially strong enough to secure high-profile players, he told: "We are different club at this level.

"We are not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor is it going towards players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically."

He added that the club won't be making an approach for Fernandes, given they are unlikely to meet the transfer demands of Sporting, he added: "I would definitely say no because Bruno (Fernandes) is a player of a level and value that is not for us."

Fernandes has been touted to seal a big-club move since the summer and it will be interesting to see whether United will revive their interest in his services at the turn of the year.

The 25-year-old bagged a staggering 33 goals and 18 assists for Sporting last term. He has managed to replicate his performance this season and has already contributed 10 goals and nine assists for the Primeira Liga side.
