Chelsea set to hold showdown talks with striker

04 December 2019 - 14:54

Chelsea are prepared to hold showdown talks with Olivier Giroud regarding his future ahead of the January transfer window.

  • Predicted Arsenal line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Chelsea, Jorginho starts
  • Man Utd eyeing surprise deal for Colombian star?

  • The 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order for the striker's role this term and he is currently behind the likes of Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the preference list under Frank Lampard.

According to Evening Standard, Blues boss Lampard is expected to hold discussions with the experienced marksman and he would prefer the Frenchman to stay.

However, it appears that Giroud does not seem keen on the same idea and he is said to be concerned over his national team spot ahead of next summer's European Championship finals.

The France international has managed just seven appearances for the west London side across all competitions this season and out of those, he has accumulated just three starts.

Giroud's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he has been linked with the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund ahead of next month's transfer window.

The Blues are currently banned from signing any players until July 2020. They are presently hopeful that the verdict of the transfer ban appeal will come in their favour later this month.
