AC Milan has completed a deal to bring Danish international defender Simon Kjaer back to Serie A. The 30-year-old, who is actually owned by Atalanta, has spent the majority of the first-half of the season on-loan at Sevilla, but as the Rossoneri prepare for this afternoon’s game in Sardinia against Cagliari, the medical team at Milanello will be putting the Dane through his paces before confirmation that he will remain on-loan in Italy for the remainder of the campaign with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.
Milan boss Stefano Pioli needs cover in his back-line after Mattia Caldara went in the opposite direction back to the club where he started his career. Kjaer only made six appearances with the Bergamo club at the start of the current campaign, before coach Gian Piero Gasperini decided he was surplus to requirements.
Kjaer does have previous experience of playing in the Italian top-flight having spent a season in the capital with AS Roma back in 2011. His international record is fairly impressive too, having represented his country on 95 occasions scoring three times in the process.
It’s been a desperately bad first-half of the season for the Rossoneri, who find themselves in the lower reaches of the current Serie A standings just eight points clear of the relegation zone. It’s been a busy week so far for the club too, with Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina understood to be leaving Italy to return to the Premier League with Aston Villa and former Chelsea custodian Asmir Begovic taking his place as understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
