Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has made the switch to Nuremberg on loan for the rest of the current campaign.

  • The Greek football has been with the Gunners since the winter of 2018 but his opportunities have been limited due to the competition and injuries along the way.

He made just one appearance for the north London side in the first half of the season and Nuremberg have now confirmed that the centre-back has joined them on a temporary deal.

"Konstantinos is a robust central defender and is strong in headers. We would like to expressly thank FC Arsenal for the good exchange and the trust that the club has placed in us," Nuremberg sporting director Rober Palikuca told the club's official website.

With the departure of Mavropanos, the Gunners find themselves short in the central defensive department with only Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi acting as the back-up options to David Luiz and Sokratis.

Holding has looked far from impressive since his return from a knee injury and reports have widely claimed that Mustafi will be heading out on loan before the end of the month.

As a result, the club are actively on the hunt for a new centre-back and they are said to be eyeing an experienced defender whom they can sign on an initial loan agreement.
