Mikel Arteta provides update on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future

05 March 2020 - 18:49

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reiterated that he would like to keep hold of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beyond the 2020 summer transfer window.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The Gabon international has been the standout performer for the Gunners in the attack this term and he has already netted 20 goals in all competitions.

Despite this, there remain doubts regarding his future with the north London club, considering his current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2021.

Speaking in a press conference, Arteta said that it is early to predict the future of the marksman but he would personally prefer to keep hold of the player.

"Where we are sitting in (the table at) that moment. I think it is difficult to predict that context right now. For me it is very easy. I want to keep him under any circumstances," he told via Arsenal.com.

Aubameyang recently squandered a late scoring chance against Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners bowed out of the Europa League at the round of 32 stage.

The forward was rested for the recent FA Cup fifth round tie but he should start for the Gunners when they host West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend.
