An impressive young Arsenal side defeated Portsmouth at the Emirates Stadium 3-1. Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed an early penalty, while Fabregas made it 2-0 with an easy tap in. Fabregas' quick free kick was scored by Rosicky to make it 3, and Kanu grabbed a consolation in a game that moves Arsenal into 2nd.
Whilst the speculation around Arsenal's Russian investment continues to takeover the limelight, Arsenal continue to impress on the field. The Gunners have moved into 2nd thanks to a very enjoyable 3-1 win over Portsmouth.
Adebayor made easy work of a penalty on 9 minutes after van Persie was hacked down by David James. Fabregas scored his 4th goal in 5 games to hit in a goal from 3 yards. The Spanish maestro also had a part to play in the 3rd goal, a quick, clever free kick was taken by Fabregas; and placed into the path of Rosicky, who smacked the ball into the corner of the net.
However, Arsenal's dominance was threatened after Philippe Senderos had brought down Kanu in the 49th minute which meant a red card for the Swiss defender. Arsenal were pressurised after being reduced to 10 men, and Utaka on the right looked very dangerous for Portsmouth. However, Gilberto and Toure again combined well in the Arsenal defence to keep Pompey out.
Portsmouth may feel a little hard done by, however, Arsenal will certainly merit their victory and will be delighted with their start to the season.
