Manchester United have reportedly triggered an extension clause in the contract of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.

  • Matic has been a regular starter for United in the backend of the current season and his performances have earned plenty of praise from the fans and pundits alike.

Earlier this month, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Matic would '100 percent' remain with the club next season and they have now taken up the 12-month option available on his contract.

As such, Matic is guaranteed to stay at the club until the summer of 2021 and Manchester Evening News reports that talks are already underway over a new contract beyond that.

The Serbian struggled for gametime at the beginning of the season where the likes of Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and Fred ahead of him in the selection order.

He has, however, benefited from the injury setbacks for McTominay and Pogba. The former Chelsea man has started nine of the club's previous 10 Premier League matches.
