Cardiff reach FA Cup final

Cardiff reach FA Cup final

06 April 2008 - 19:38

Cardiff made the final of the FA Cup for the first time in over 81 years thanks to 21 year old youngster Joe Ledley. Barnsley slumped to the 1-0 defeat between the two giant killers and sets up the final between Portsmouth and Cardiff.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • 82,752 fans crammed inside Wembley on Sunday to watch a fantastic classic match to prove that there are plenty of action outside of the Premiership.

The winner came on nine minutes, following frantic early pressure from Cardiff. The ball was floated across the Barnsley defence only to be headed out by Barnsley defender Robert Kozluk, heading towards Joe Ledley who beautifully volleyed into the net.

Barnsley, who had slain Liverpool and Chelsea on their way to Wembley, caught the eye with the Ronaldo-type stepovers of Jamal Campbell-Ryce and the creative midfield promptings of captain Brian Howard, its football lacked a cutting edge.

Barnsley's best chance to level came in the 66th minute when Odejayi bore down on Cardiff goalkeeper Peter Enckelman following a brilliant through ball.

With only the Finnish international to beat, Odejayi somehow contrived to shoot into the side-netting when it seemed easier to score.

Now Cardiff will have booked their place in the final, with hopes of emulating their 1927 victory.
