Manchester City favourites to sign Barcelona defender

Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign Nelson Semedo from Barcelona during this summer's transfer window.

The Portugal international has been with the Blaugrana since the summer of 2017 and he has made more than 100 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this, he has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot with him often sharing the right-back duties alongside Sergi Roberto.

According to Sport, the 26-year-old is keen on a fresh challenge away from the Camp Nou and he has turned down an extension beyond June 2022.

It is added that the Cityzens are the favourites to land his signature ahead of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain and they could be prepared to include Joao Cancelo as a makeweight in the proposed transfer.

Cancelo was pursued from the Bianconeri last summer but he has struggled to sufficiently impress to keep Kyle Walker out of the starting lineup.

Semedo may not be able to displace Walker instantly but he could do so in the long run, should he make a genuine impact under Pep Guardiola.
