Tottenham Hotspur to compete with Arsenal for French centre-back

Tottenham Hotspur are set to compete with Arsenal in the race to sign Reims defender Axel Disasi during the summer transfer window.

  • The 22-year-old recently helped Reims preserve the best defensive record in the French top-flight as they finished sixth in the league standings.

According to RMC Sport, the Gunners have been in talks with the French outfit over a summer deal for the centre-back, who has only 13 months remaining on his contract.

It is, however, added that the north London side could face competition from their cross-town rivals in Spurs, who are keen on finding a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who is expected to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

Disasi is likely to be available on a cut-price deal of around £13m and that sum should be affordable for the Premier League duo despite the fact that they are working on limited budgets for the summer.

At present, both teams are likely to miss out on Champions League football for next season and that could limit their spending in the next transfer window with the coronavirus pandemic already denting their finances.
