RB Leipzig chief updates on Timo Werners future

Leipzig won't sell Werner on the cheap - Oliver Mintzlaff

RB Leipzig chief updates on Timo Werner's future

28 May 2020 - 20:31

RB Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff has stressed that the club won't be compelled to sell Liverpool target Timo Werner during the summer transfer window.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The German has been in stupendous form for Leipzig this term and he has registered 30 goals and 12 assists from just 39 appearances across all competitions.

As a result, he has attracted interest from some of Europe's elite clubs but Mintzlaff has stressed that the club won't sell him for a reduced fee

"It won't get any cheaper. We will not sell a player below value if he is under contract for more than a year," he was quoted as saying by SportBILD.

The coronavirus outbreak has plummeted the transfer valuations of different players but Leipzig remain reluctant to negotiate on Werner's £52m release clause.

Jurgen Klopp's side are regarded as the favourites to sign Werner this summer but reports claim that they may have second thoughts over making a move amid the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

In such a case, it's reported that Werner could decide to remain with Leipzig for another 12 months rather than making the switch to either Chelsea or Manchester United.
