The Ghana international has been linked with the north London side in recent months but it is unclear whether the club can trigger the £44m release clause under the current financial situation.

According to Football.London, Paris Saint-Germain are said to hold an interest in signing the 26-year-old but the midfielder has no desire to join the French champions this summer.

It is added that he is determined to sign for Mikel Arteta's side and remains hopeful that the club can make the breakthrough in the negotiations with Atletico.

The Gunners are reluctant to meet the buy-out clause in the midfielder's deal but there are suggestions that Atletico could accept a straight-swap agreement with Alexandre Lacazette moving in the opposite direction.

Still, the Premier League side may have second thoughts over that option, considering they are facing a situation where they could lose the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the same transfer window.
