Manchester City could reportedly make a surprise attempt to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid during this summer's transfer window.
The Spain international is currently approaching the end of his season-long loan at Arsenal, where he has made 36 appearances in all competitions.
He has been almost ever-present in the centre of the park under Mikel Arteta since February and talks are already underway over another temporary deal.
According to Marca, the Gunners have started negotiations with Los Blancos over a fresh loan contract for Ceballos with the option to buy.
While they have a good chance of getting the deal over the line, it is reported that the Cityzens are prepared to pounce in case of any setback.
Unlike the Gunners, the Cityzens would be willing to negotiate the permanent transfer of Ceballos from the 13-time European champions.
Pep Guardiola is expected to go on a spending spree this summer as the Cityzens aim to offer a strong challenge for the league title next term.
