Schalke failed in Lehmann bid

According to the British press, Schalke 04 failed in a last ditch attempt to sign Jens Lehmann from Arsenal on the final day of the transfer window.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have rejected Schalke's interest in the German international keeper as he was unable to find suitable cover before the end of the transfer window.



Lehmann is rumoured to have been dropped to the bench after a couple of early season errors, and Manuel Almunia has impressed in recent games.
