Manchester United are reportedly planning to extend the contract of Jesse Lingard using the clause available to them.
The England international has less than 10 months remaining on his current deal and reports have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing him.
The Red Devils are likely to listen to offers for Lingard, but The Sun claims that they will trigger the 12-month extension clause on his contract such that they can avoid selling him for a cut-price fee.
Lingard has been fancied to reunite with manager Jose Mourinho at Spurs this summer. The north London giants have identified him as a replacement for Dele Alli, who appears on his way to Paris Saint-Germain.
Lingard has barely featured for the Red Devils since the beginning of the year, but the club are still expected to command a fee of around £30m to sanction his departure this summer.
It is unclear whether Spurs would be willing to meet the price tag.
