Chelsea reportedly failed with a move to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

  • The Blues were actively on the search for a new shot-stopper earlier this summer due to the inconsistent performances of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

They were linked with a number of high-profile goalkeepers including Ter Stegen and Jan Oblak before they landed the signature of Edouard Mendy from Rennes.

It is now revealed that the west London giants were determined to sign Ter Stegen and they made an attempt to convince him to decline a new contract with the Blaugrana.

However, their efforts went in vain as the German had no plans of parting ways with the Blaugrana. Ter Stegen's current deal expires at the end of next season, but he is expected to sign a new bumper contract in the coming days.

He is presently sidelined from first-team duties following a surgery on a knee problem. The 28-year-old may only return to action after the November international break.
