Romero wants MLS move

Sergio Romero holds talks with Manchester United over his future

27 October 2020 - 19:49

Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero has reportedly held talks with Manchester United regarding his future.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The 33-year-old had been the back-up goalkeeper to David de Gea over the past five seasons and that position has been taken by Dean Henderson following his impressive loan stints with Sheffield United.

Earlier this month, United made the decision to exclude Romero from the 25-man Premier League squad and they have since left him out of the squad for the Champions League group stage.

Hence, it is quite clear that Romero is not in the manager's plans and Manchester Evening News claims that he has held talks with the hierarchy alongside his representative.

Romero is said to be keen on moving to MLS, but the transfer window for that league closes later this week. He is currently in the final year of his contract, but United have the option for another 12 months.

United demanded around £10m for Romero during the European transfer window and that put off clubs from signing him. It remains to be seen whether they are prepared to release him such that he can head to MLS.
