Bruce: we can upset Chelsea

Bruce: we can upset Chelsea

14 April 2008 - 16:37

Wigan boss Steve Bruce is hoping to help out his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson by causing a shock upset at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in the Premiership tonight.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • "If we win at Stamford Bridge then I am sure Fergie will have a little drink," he told the Sunday Mirror.

"Mind you, I'd hope to get more than one bottle sent from Old Trafford myself if we beat Chelsea. They haven't lost at home for four years, so I'd expect to get a case of the good stuff if we get a result down there.

"It's a long time since I've had any influence on a title race and to be honest I haven't even been thinking of this one because I've been concentrating on the other end of the table.

"We play both Chelsea and United in our last five games and we still need points ourselves to make sure that we're safe.

"Our home form has been good and if we can take that to Stamford Bridge on Monday night and they have an off-day then we could give them a hell of a game. We need a result as much as they do.

"People have been giving us pats on the back all week, so I've had to bring the players down a peg or two so they know we are not yet safe."
