Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha at the end of the campaign.
The Red Devils are expected to pursue a new defensive midfielder, and have their sights on landing Palhinha.
The 26-year-old has flourished for Sporting over the past year, and he could be on his way to England this summer.
Sporting inserted a £50 million release clause on his contract in December, but he could be sold for around £20m.
United are aware of the situation, and they are likely to step up their interest ahead of the next transfer window.
Palhinha was previously on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur, but they could not finalise a suitable deal with Sporting.
Spurs may enter the race once more, but the Red Devils may have the edge, having done business with Sporting.
They have signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Bruno Fernandes from the Lisbon giants over the years.
Fernandes has been a huge hint, and Palhinha could be the next Portuguese contingent to join the club this summer.
