The Frenchman was on the radar of the Red Devils two years ago, but Lyon were adamant that they did not want to sell him.

Dembele is now expected to leave them when his deal expires in June and it is claimed that United could make a contract offer.

The former Fulham youngster has had a difficult 2022/23 season and he has largely played second fiddle to Alexandre Lacazette.

Despite this, he has plenty of talent at 26 years of age and he could be a handy rotational striker for the Red Devils next term.

United are planning an overhaul over their striking options this summer. Anthony Martial is likely to be offloaded by the club.

Meanwhile, Wout Weghorst could also return to Burnley following the completion of his six-month loan. He has barely impressed.

Weghorst has displayed a superb workrate in the final third but he has found the back of the net on just two occasions in two months.
